Images of the Cosmos - Good Seeing
An in-depth look at the latest advances in Telescopes and what they can see with the aid of new technology.
The application of new technology to some of the best ground-based Telescopes in the world is examined here.
We find out about the conditions needed for idea viewing or "seeing" and explore how the Astronomers enemy our turbulent atmosphere can be overcome with some ingenious techniques. These include active optics, adaptive optics and coherent interferometry all of which are explained with demonstrations of their power. Space Telescopes are mentioned but this is mainly about the ground based advances in the field.
