1974 was a fantastic year for orchestral music, and for bert kaempfert. some of my favourite soaring seventies tracks come from around this period. the production values and sound of the the time can be found in this magnificient and rare live performance by mr. kaempfert and his orchestra.
i had not seen this record before stumbling upon and have just begun to enjoy it. the songs are often more intense and dramatic than the originals (which i love.) "tahitian sunset" is simply awesome. thanks bert, you are fantastic.
unfortunately there's a quality problem on "strangers in the night" - the brass is f%$&# (apologies) - it must've been the previous owners very very favourite track...

since we're having a bert moment, i just had to slip this great compilation of earlier bert material, featuring "cerveza" that was used on the karminsky comp "inflight entertainment" (highly recommended.) these tracks are all great: chirpy, sharp, adventurous and likely to get the feet tapping.
ok forget the crappy cover...the content is untreated 320kbps so you can treat it yourself. there's some crackle, but it don't bother me.

Bert Kaempfert - To The Good Life (1973)

bert kaempfert's prolific and consistently impressive discography has received a lot of re-release attention in the last decade, making me the proud owner of many a fine bert album. this one i somehow missed though, until i stumbled across a double vinyl copy in the polydor "bert kaempfert collection" at my 5th floor dealer. how an lp from as late as the early nineties ended up in the middle of all that stock is beyond me, but the mint copies of "to the good life" and record one "bye bye blues" are deeply appreciated.
the polydor "bk collection" covers are awful, so i pinched this album cover instead. this is bert smooth and steady, a little swing and a little seventies.
