The city of Taroudannt lies in the Souss Valley, Morocco, against the foothills of the High Atlas mountain range. It is an Arab city in a Berber area. The women of Taroudannt have found their place in the Roudani musical world. Groups of singers and percussionists sings songs of praise or supplication, as determined by the marabout or the time of year. They also participate in family events, like weddings and funerals. The immediacy of their musical expression touches the listeners heart and their polyrhythmics never cease to amaze.
