Garth Brooks was the self-titled, debut album of American country music artist Garth Brooks. It was released on Wednesday, April 12, 1989. It was both a critical and chart success. It peaked at #2 in the U.S. Country chart and made #13 on the Billboard 200. It went on to sell close to 10 million copies worldwide. Brooks commented on the album, saying:

"This album was released in April of 1989, in the States. Definitely scared to death. I thought the album was very very innocent. And I gotta be truthful with you, every time I hear those songs off the radio or off the album itself, or even when we play them live. I really get that same kind of scared feeling, that I had, way back in 1988, and 1989.

Whether you get the album or not, or whether you have the album or not. Thanks, for just, the interest. That first album is always a big one for any artist and I, without trying to sound egotistical, I'm very proud of my first one."

This album contains Brooks earliest hits, for instance his first ever single, "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)", which peaked at #3 on the Country Billboard Charts in 1989. It put an independent cowboy singer, Chris LeDoux, into the mainstream due to the lyric "a worn out tape of Chris LeDoux". Two other strong starts include his first #1, "If Tomorrow Never Comes" and the Academy of Country Music's 1990 Song of the Year and Video of the Year, "The Dance" (another #1).

Garth Brooks - No Fences (1990)




No Fences was released on August 27, 1990, and is American country music artist Garth Brooks' second album. It reached #1 on the Billboard country music charts and #3 on Billboard's pop chart, and is Brooks' best-selling album to date, with global sales of over 20 million copies (approximately 17 million in the U.S. through 2006.) This is the album that made him an international star and was his first album issued in Great Britain (the original release in that country contained four bonus tracks, the singles from his previous U.S debut).

Brooks commented on the album, saying:

No Fences definitely, hands down would be the people's favorite album that we have done so far. It's by far our biggest selling album. With songs like Friends In Low Places, Two of a Kind, Unanswered Prayers, and especially The Thunder Rolls with all the attention it got with the video situation that it went through. It's probably not surprising that this is the biggest selling album of our collection. The number that we have sold surprises me to death, and this is a good time for me to say thanks to those people who have it.

To those people who might be thinking about getting Fences, if you do, I hope that you don't feel like you've been let down. It's an album that I stand by, I'm very proud of. An album that I pull out from time to time and listen and hold my head up and say, yeah I'll still stand by it.

Some of Brooks most famous songs appear on No Fences, including: "The Thunder Rolls" (CMA's 1991 Video of the Year), "Friends in Low Places" (Academy of Country Music's 1990 Single of the Year), "Unanswered Prayers" and "Two of a Kind, Workin' on a Full House". A cover version of The Fleetwoods' "Mr. Blue" appears on the album. The album itself was named Album of the Year by the ACM in 1990. It reached Number 1 on the British country music charts (earning Brooks his first gold album in that country) and remained charted for over five years.

Brooks later released the track "Wild Horses" as a single in 2001, reaching #7 on the country charts with it.

Garth Brooks - Ropin' the Wind (1991)




Ropin' the Wind is American country music artist Garth Brooks' third album, released on Tuesday, September 10, 1991. It was the first album to debut at #1 on both the Country and Pop charts in the United States. There it enjoyed four runs at #1 between September 28 1991 - April 3 1992, spending a combined 18 weeks at the top, eventually being certified for shipments of 14 million copies in the United States by the RIAA[1] on September 23 1998. It also had success in many countries. In the UK it reached the Top 50 pop albums list and went to #1 for several months on the country charts. Overall it sold more than 16 million copies worldwide. Brooks had this to say regarding the album:

"Ropin' the Wind was what we called the son of Fences. Ropin' the Wind was made in this world-wind kind of tour that we were on from No Fences. We were gone, pretty much 250 days out of the year. And in that remaining 100 days, I elected to cut Ropin' The Wind, and try to write for it. This album became a lot bigger than I ever thought it could possibly be. And when I listen to the singles off of it like Rodeo, What She's Doing Now, The River, Papa Loved Mama, and Shameless, I look at it and stand very proud. And then when I also look at the cuts, Against The Grain, Cold Shoulder, these songs I am equally proud of."

The track "Shameless" is a cover of a Billy Joel song, previously recorded on his 1989 album Storm Front.

Garth Brooks - The Chase (1992)



The Chase is the fourth studio album of American country music artist Garth Brooks. It was released on Tuesday, September 22, 1992 and sold 403,000 copies in its first week. The Chase sold 9 million copies in the U.S through 2006. It reached #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and #1 on the Billboard 200 Pop Albums chart. It was also successful internationally. It reached Number One on the UK country albums chart and remained in the top ten for many months. Brooks had this to say regarding the album:

"The Chase is definitely the most personal album I think I've ever been involved with. This is as much me as anybody has ever seen. It was recorded at a time in my life that was probably the most trying time of my life. Not the fact that it was a hard time for me, I was just going through a lot of things at this time. Probably the biggest thing was expecting the birth of our first child Taylor. Was also in the business for record re-negotiations, we were remodeling our house. And still trying to go through the biggest tour I'd ever been on since Ropin' The Wind was seeing the success that it was. No Fences seemed to still be doing very well. So we were gone another 250 to 300 days out of the year.

So, when you hear this album or snippets from it, and you hear things that are more, probably socially oriented as far as concerns of the world. And some things that are a little bit darker. That's probably 'cause that's where I was at that time. It was a big moment for me. And I gotta say of all the albums I've ever done, this one has the best writing on it, and probably the one that I feel the strongest about. I'm very proud and I love this album."

"Dixie Chicken" is a cover of the classic Little Feat song off of their 1973 album of the same name while "Night Rider's Lament" is a classic cowboy song that had been previously recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker and Chris LeDoux.

Garth Brooks - In Pieces (1993)



In Pieces is American country music artist Garth Brooks' fifth studio album (sixth overall). It was released on Tuesday, August 31, 1993. The album sold 8 million copies in the U.S through 2006. It reached #1 on the Billboard Country music charts and #1 on the Billboard's Pop Albums chart. It was also a huge hit outside the United States. In the Great Britain it was Brooks' highest placed album on the charts. It reached the top ten of the country album charts before it was issued officially (due to imports from both the United States and Ireland). Critics felt that this would ruin the album's sales once it was issued. However, when it was eventually issued in Britain in early 2004 it went to #1 on the country charts and reached #2 in the pop charts and also produced two top 40 hit singles on the British pop charts. Brooks had this to say regarding the album:

"In Pieces was just time to smile. It was time to laugh, it was time to get loud. It's definitely the most live album that we've ever cut. I think the band went to a different level on this. They seemed to play more like a band that had been together for years than studio musicians that come together and play at time to time.

So this one is all there for me. I like to listen to it loud, and I just love the stuff like Baton Rouge and Ain't Going Down Til The Sun Comes Up. From One Night A Day, all the way to the very last song, The Cowboy Song, which is definitely my favorite off In Pieces and it will stand up with anything that I have cut over the past five years.

Like the other things, I'm very proud of this one and I hope you like it."

The track "Callin' Baton Rouge" was previously a #37 peaking single in 1987 for the New Grass Revival, whose members back Brooks on his rendition. It was the first time the group had recorded together since they disbanded in 1989.

In an interview with BBC Radio DJ Richard Wooton, Brooks stated that the track "The Cowboy Song" (which was composed in 1987 by Roy Robinson) was found in a trash can by someone on his team who liked the song and played the track to him.

Garth Brooks - Fresh Horses (1995)



Fresh Horses is American country music artist Garth Brooks' sixth studio album (eighth overall). It was released on Tuesday, November 21, 1995. The album had a worldwide radio ban until it was available to buy. Only the two singles issued ("She's Every Woman" and "The Fever") were allowed to be played before this date, the latter of which was a new country-rock version of an old Aerosmith song). Once issued, "Fresh Horses" hit #1 on the Billboard Country music charts and #2 on the Billboard's Pop chart. Through 2006, approximately 7 million copies have been sold in the U.S. In the United Kingdom the album was another success, reaching the top 30 pop albums and topping the country charts.

Brooks was a bit concerned how the album would fare, given his two-year absence. He commented: "Everyone was expecting this album to be pop. Everyone said we were leaving (country). For the first time ever, I was involved (in writing) in eight of the 10 cuts, so it's a huge reflection of myself. It's the things I enjoy singing about. I got to sing about the band on the road, I got to sing about cowboys, and more importantly, the women who put up with those cowboys."

Garth Brooks - Sevens (1997)



Sevens is the seventh studio album (ninth overall) of American country pop artist Garth Brooks. It was released on November 25, 1997. It hit #1 on the Billboard Country music charts and #1 on the Billboard Pop chart. The album also topped the Country album charts in Britain for several months and crossed over into the mainstream pop charts.

777,777 copies of Sevens were marked as First Editions. These albums have a gold seal on the CD booklet and a similar mark on the CD itself. Canadian versions of the albums have a maple leaf shaped seal on the cover. First Editions were not released outside of North America.

Brooks quoted upon release of the album: "I'm proud, I'm excited, I'm nervous, and it feels good to be back in the game again. This is a very personal album. I only wrote six of the songs, but there are many that are so 'me' that people I work with every day thought I wrote them".

Through 2006, approximately 10 million copies have been sold in the U.S. His duet with Trisha Yearwood, "In Another's Eyes", won the Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals at the Grammy Awards of 1998. Sevens was nominated for the Best Country Album Grammy the following year.

Garth Brooks - In the Life of Chris Gaines (1999)



Greatest Hits, also entitled Garth Brooks in.... The Life of Chris Gaines, is part of the alter ego project of American country music artist Garth Brooks, in which Brooks assumes the fictitious persona of alternative rock artist Chris Gaines. Originally this album was intended to be the soundtrack for a movie called The Lamb that would star Garth Brooks as a rock star recalling the different periods of his life. This album was purposely released a year in advance from the scheduled film release date to pique interest in Brooks performing rock instead of country. The Lamb was never filmed due to financial and management problems.

This is Brooks' eleventh overall album, released on September 28, 1999. It reached #2 on the Billboard 200 Pop albums chart. Brooks also gained his first and only appearance on the U.S. Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, with "Lost in You" (which hit #5). Through 2006, it sold approximately two million albums in the U.S.

On November 13, 1999, Brooks hosted Saturday Night Live as himself but performed the musical numbers as Chris Gaines without acknowledging to the audience that they were the same person. He performed "Way of the Girl."

Scarecrow is the eighth studio album (fourteenth overall) of American country pop artist Garth Brooks. It was released on Tuesday, November 13, 2001. At the time, this was his first album released in four years.

Previous to the release, Brooks quoted: "At the end of last year I made a commitment to Capitol (Records) that I would try to bring them one more album. This is the result of that effort, a real labor of love, that I'm proud to hold up next to all of our previous releases." Describing the CD, Brooks says: For the first time in my life I think I made a happy album. It's heavy on steel guitars, but you're not aware of it in some places because the musicians are so good at what they do."

The album has sold five million copies in the U.S., and has been certified 5× Multi-Platinum by the RIAA. It was named Best Selling Album at the 2002 Canadian Country Music Association Awards.

The Hits was the second compilation album and first greatest hits album from American country pop artist Garth Brooks. It was released on December 13, 1994 by Capitol Records. It was quickly deleted at Brooks' request (he insisted it only be available for a limited time), but not before it sold well over ten million copies. It reached #1 on the Billboard Country music charts and #1 on the Billboard's Pop chart. It was also a huge success in other countries. It topped the pop charts Ireland where Brooks was now a household name. It also topped the country charts in Great Britain and reached #11 in the pop charts there.

Double Live is the name of Garth Brooks' tenth country pop album. As its name implies, it is a two-disc live album recorded live during Brooks' second world tour in 1998. It broke the first week sales record at the time, when it sold one million copies, becoming the best-selling live album in the U.S. since Peter Frampton's Frampton Comes Alive! in 1976. The RIAA certified the album at 21.00× Multi Platinum, on November 1st 2006, recognising 10.5 million shipments in the United States (as a double album its was certified double the original 10.5 times, hence the certification of 21.00× Multi Platinum)- making it his sixth best-selling album there.

The Lost Sessions, an album of previously unreleased material recorded by Brooks between 1995 and 2000, along with the newly-recorded Chris LeDoux tribute "Good Ride Cowboy". Shortly after the Limited Series box set was released, The Lost Sessions was released individually, featuring six more songs, and a re-sequenced track listing. Garth Brooks - The Ultimate Hits (2007)



The Ultimate Hits is an album from country music artist Garth Brooks, released on November 6, 2007, comprising 34 songs (four of which were new) over two compact discs, as well as a DVD containing his music videos.

The first single released from the album, "More Than a Memory", made US country chart history the week of September 15, 2007, when it debuted at #1, the first to do so. The other new singles are (current) "Midnight Sun" (written by Brooks, Jerrod Niemann, and Richie Brown), "Leave the Light On" (Randy Goodrum and Tommy Sims), and "Workin' for a Livin'" which peaked in the Top 20.

The album was also released in a special pink edition on October 15, 2007, with proceeds going to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The album debuted at number three on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling about 352,000 copies in its first week. Selling 204,000 copies, the album went to number one on the Top Country Albums chart in its second week. In its third week, The Ultimate Hits sold 192,000 bringing its three week total to more than 748,000 albums sold. In Great Britain the album was also a hit, reaching #1 in the Country music charts and the top 10 on the pop charts.

On January 18, 2008, the RIAA certified The Ultimate Hits Gold, Platinum & 5× Multi-platinum - denoting shipments of 2.5 million in the United States.

Garth Brooks - Beyond the Season (1992)



Beyond the Season was the first Christmas album released by American country music artist Garth Brooks. It was released on August 25, 1992 and has sold approximately three million albums in the U.S through 2006. It reached #2 on the Billboard Country music charts and #2 on the Billboard's Pop chart.

Brooks commented on the album, saying: "Beyond The Season hands down, without a doubt, is the most fun record that I've ever made. You always cut Christmas albums, it seems in the middle of summer for some reason to have them prepared in time for Christmas. And we did this one in June and July of '92. I remember Mark Miller the engineer, had strung Christmas lights all through the studio, put the fake snow and turned the air conditioning down. It was a blast.

This album I would make every day of my life if I could. Totally no pressure, you're singing about what counts and that's the feeling of Christmas. Which in my opinion should be shared everyday of the year, instead of just one day of the year. I hope you like it."

Garth Brooks and the Magic of Christmas is the second holiday album, and twelfth overall of American country music artist Garth Brooks. Released on November 23, 1999, it hit #1 on the Billboard country music charts and #7 on Billboard's pop chart. One million copies have been sold through 2006. Two years after this album's release, Brooks released a very-similar follow-up album, Songs from Call Me Claus, which contained most of the songs from this release.
