Ivan the Terrible was the musical score written by Sergei Prokofiev to the film directed by Eisenstein. Prokofiev composed the music 1st part in 1942-44 and the 2nd part in 1945. After the composer’s death, the film music was arranged first into an oratorio (with speaker, soloists, chorus, and orchestra) by Abram Stasevich (1961), who was the conductor of the film score, and later into a concert scenario by many conductors.
This is one of the two works born from the Prokofiev collaboration with Eisenstein (the other one was Alexander Nevsky).

Hi mates! I bought this rare set about 10 years ago, in order to hear a different good performance of the cycle Prokofiev´s Symphonies. As you know jean Martinon was a champion of Debussy & Ravel music, but he also recorded works by Prokofiev and Shostakovich (as, for instance, Prokofiev´s Fifth and Seventh or Shostakovich´s First for British Decca), among others. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this fabulous set.
