Description: Marty Feldman's first feature as director is a scattershot of droll wordplay, comedy of manners, and surreal visual jokes -- notably the uniquely filmic jokes which pit the characters against the medium. This is nominally an American film -- despite the Britishness of the director, cast, and source material -- and was discussed in J. H. Matthews "Surrealism and American Feature Films." Apparently, the studio re-edited the film for release and unfortunately a restored version has not yet appeared. Recommended viewing, nevertheless.
