Spring Parade (1940)
A charming light musical comedy romance starring Deanna Durbin, as an Austrian peasant girl, and Robert Cummings, as a young army officer with musical ambitions.
The plot is pure unashamed hokum from first to last. Deanna is sent to the fair to sell a goat. She has her fortune told, but the prediction seems very far fetched.
However after an energetic dancing competition she falls asleep on the back of a cart bound for the bright lights of Vienna, fulfilling the first prediction. Now she needs to find an artist to fall in love with. Instead she finds herself employed in a bakery, but destiny is not to be frustrated.
Deanna, as ever, gets several songs to sings along the way, 'It's foolish but it's fun', and 'Waltzing in the Clouds' among them.
