The brilliant Carthaginian general, Hannibal (Victor Mature)
despises Rome. Fueled by vengeance, he drives his army of elephants
through the treacherous, frozen Alps into Italy, crushing anyone who
dared to oppose him. As a strategy to break the morale of his enemies,
Hannibal captures the beautiful Sylvia of Rome (Rita Gam) so she may
see the might of his army and spread the news of impending doom to her
people. However, a love grows between the two that will eventually be
his undoing. This big-budget spectacle produced by Warner Bros. was
shot in Technicolor and SuperCinescope and literally features a cast of
thousands... over 4,000 foot-soldiers, 1,500 horsemen, 45 elephants and
a vast assortment of war machines were employed in the historic battle
of Cannae alone.

Description: In Palestine, 1000 B.C., the Jews are ruled by the

Description: In the reign of emperor Tiberius, Gallilean prophet John
the Baptist preaches against King Herod and Queen Herodias. The latter

Quo vadis 1951


Returning to Rome after 3 years in the field, General Marcus Vinicius
meets Lygia and falls in love with her. She is a Christian and doesn't
want to have anything to do with a warrior. Though she grew up Roman,
the adopted daughter of a retired general, Lygia is technically a
hostage of Rome. Marcus gets Emperor Nero to give her to him for
services rendered. Lygia resents this, but somehow falls in love with
Marcus anyway. Meanwhile Nero's atrocities get more outrageous. When he
burns Rome and blames the Christians, Marcus goes off to save Lygia and
her family. Nero captures them and all the Christians, and throws them
to the lions.

The Queen Of Sheba (1952)

his son Rehoboam (Gino Leurini)on a spy mission to Sheba where he falls

war between their two countries in this bottom-of-the-barrel Italian

The Birth of a Nation (1915)


Two brothers, Phil and Ted Stoneman, visit their friends in Piedmont,
South Carolina: the family Cameron. This friendship is affected by the
Civil War, as the Stonemans and the Camerons must join up opposite
armies. The consequences of the War in their lives are shown in
connection to major historical events, like the development of the
Civil War itself, Lincoln's assassination, and the birth of the Ku Klux
Klan.

El Cid (1961)


Eleventh-century Spain is divided into Christian kingdoms and Moorish
strongholds. The young Rodrigo Diaz de Bivar--dubbed El Cid by his
followers--vows to see his country at peace, free from the invader.
Vigorously brave and resourceful, the noble knight hates bloodshed and
faces treason charges at court for the clemency shown to some emirs.
His accuser, Gomez, father of his fiancée, Chimene, dies in the
resulting duel. Chimene's avowed vengeance plot fails and Rodrigo is
given her hand; the marriage is not consummated and she enters a
convent. On Ferdinand's death, his kingdom is divided among his three
children. Sancho challenges the decision and imprisons Alfonso, who is
released by the Cid. The African war-lord, Ben Yssef, takes advantage
of the quarrel by having Sancho assassinated. Alfonso now claims that
throne, too, and exiles the Cid. Chimene realizes the nobility of her
husband and joins him, but returns to the convent with their two
children, when he goes into battle against Ben Yussef. The years pass,
El Cid becomes a revered warrior, but refuses to aid Alfonso,
preferring his own strategy. He lays siege to Valencia, catapulting
food into its starving garrison; when the Valencians kill their evil
ruler, Al Kadir, they offer the crown to the Cid. He sends it to
Alfonso, who rushes, hysterically gratified, to his side. But the Cid
has been hit by a stray arrow. Attended by Chimene, he hides the wound
from his men and prepares a final bid to drive the Moors from Spain.

Khartoum (1966)


After an Egyptian army, commanded by British officers, is destroyed in
a battle in the Sudan in the 1880's, the British government is in a
quandary. It does not want to commit a British military force to a
foreign war but they have a commitment to protect the Egyptians in
Khartoum. They decide to ask General Charles "Chinese" Gordon,
something of a folk hero in the Sudan as he had cleared the area of the
slave trade, to arrange for the evacuation. Gordon agrees but also
decides to defend the city against the forces of the Mahdi - the
expected one - and tries to force the British to commit troops.

The Colossus Of Rhodes (1961)

A Greek military hero named Darios visits his uncle in Rhodes in the
year 280 BC. Rhodes has just finished constructing an enormous colossus
of Apollo to guard its harbor and is planning an alliance with
Phoenicia which would be hostile to Greece. Darios flirts with the
beautiful Diala, daughter of the statue's mastermind, while becoming
involved with a group of rebels headed by Peliocles. These rebels seek
to overthrow the tyrannical King Serse as does Serse's evil
second-in-command, Thar. The rebels' revolt seems to fail, with
Peliocles and his men being captured and forced to provide amusement in
the local arena, but an earthquake eventually upsets, not only the
Colossus in the harbor, but the balance of power in Rhodes as well.
